MetroStars Academy History
2001:
MetroStars select Rodrigo Faria of the MetroStars Reserve team in the first round of the MLS Super Draft. Faria goes on to earn Rookie of the Year honors.
2003:
MetroStars officially announce the formation of its U-17 Academy team.
U-17 team finishes in 2nd place of the Metro Division and reaches U-17 Super-Y League Final
Alecko Eskandarian, formerly of the MetroStars affiliated PDL team, is taken as the No.1 selection in the MLS Super Draft by DC United.
2004:
MetroStars announce a reorganization of its Academy teams, dropping the U-17 team and adding the U-16 and U-18 teams
Josh Gros, formerly of the MetroStars affiliated PDL team, is taken in the MLS Super Draft by DC United
U-18 team defeats Universidad de Monterrey (Mexican First Division) and Brampton Rangers (2nd ranked U19 team in Canada) at Dallas Cup and reaches U-19 Dallas Cup Final
U-18 team is New Jersey State Cup Semifinalist at U-19 age group
U-18 team wins Metro Division Championship and advances to Quarterfinals of Super Y League at U-19 age group
U-18 team defeats Bermuda U-20 National team by scores of 3-1 and 3-0
U-16 team defeats Honduras U-17 National team by a score of 4-0
U-16 team finishes Metro Division in 2nd place and qualifies for U-16 Super Y League North American Finals
Eight players from U-16 and U-18 teams are selected for Super Y League ODP
Six players from U-16 are selected to US Region I Pool and one selected to U-15 National Pool. (All players are currently with the U-16 team for the 2005 season)
U-18 team graduates 17 players into college ranks (15 players at Division I and 2 players at nationally ranked Division III school):
Colleges include: University of Connecticut, Seton Hall University, Villanova University, Harvard University, Yale University, Farleigh Dickinson University, Fordham University, Iona College, Lehigh University, University of Albany and Kean University.
Pino Tubito (NEC Rookie of the Year at Fairleigh Dickinson University).
2005:
MetroStars announce the launch of its U-14 Academy team. Hundreds of local players compete in tryouts.
Chris Karcz, formerly of the MetroStars affiliated PDL team, is taken in the MLS Supplemental Draft by the Chicago Fire.
